A very short swim North from Twins and you will find Buoyancy world, one of Koh Tao’s ever growing number of artificial dive sites.
This site is an excellent spot for an Open Water Diver course training dive and the many different structures that have been placed to create an artificial dive site make it fun for many of the PADI Adventures in Diving or PADI Specialty training dives too.
Work started on this project in 2009. The plan was to create a scuba diver training specific area, just off a main dive site to promote marine life, coral growth and biodiversity.
Twins is probably the most versatile dive site on Koh Tao for diver training, and as a result, the most popular site to dive making it the perfect choice.
The construction of Buoyancy World was an island wide effort. Many Koh Tao dive schools contributed designing and building structures, guided by local conservation groups such as Save Koh Tao and Eco Koh Tao.
With the site being such a success further structures were placed down in 2011 to enhance this training site even more.
Hoops and tunnels as well as an obstacle course have been added providing a perfect test for your buoyancy skills and is often used for students that are participating on the Peak Performance Buoyancy Adventure dive portion of the PADI Advanced Open Water course.
Buoyancy World very much has the feel of an underwater playground..!!
In the centre of Buoyancy World lays one of Crystal Dive’s contributions to this dive site.
A ‘shipwreck’ consisting of our coral nurseries, positioned in a way that resembles the shape of a boat.
The coral nursery has been a great success with the ‘wreck’ now covered in Staghorn corals. On top of the ‘wreck’ sits a group of young Batfish and on the inside of the corals you can sometimes see Juvenile Sweetlips dancing around.
This dive sites depth ranges from 10m to 16m on the western side, just past the Himmapan trees, but watch out for nesting Titan Triggerfish swimming around this area.
When not practicing your buoyancy skills you can expect to see many Red Breasted Wrasse, Parrotfish and Goatfish gliding around the sand.
Giant Pufferfish will sit down and take a rest using the structures for shelter with Longfin Bannerfish swimming around slowly in pairs.
Buoyancy World has proved to be a great addition to Koh Tao's already amazing underwater world and although very much a training site its definitely worth a look for more experienced divers, integrated within your Twins dive plan.
